November 5th meeting. . .

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I am LOVING what I am learning. I have been hungering for a forum like this for a long time. There is so much to learn, to understand and to share. . .My confidence is growing in my ability to articulate what I believe. Thank you for the "safe" atmosphere of sharing thoughts that we enjoy together. I love our country and all that it stands for. . .I know that our Founding Fathers---and the Lord, for that matter--expect Americans to be students of the Constitution and missionaries for the principles on which this nation was founded.

I am excited about the role playing that we plan to do. . .I need practice in sharing my opinions with strength and in such a way that I can motivate others to learn more of what it truly means to be a free people in these United States. Should we have a "one topic" role play at each meeting? Spending a portion of our time in that way each time we meet may be just the practice that we need. . .let me know what you think.

Below is the link for the talk from Elder Oaks that we had agreed to discuss next month:

Also, the other assignment is to read chapter 4 of Liberty and Tyranny and principles 5 and 6 of The Five Thousand Year Leap.

We decided to divide the cost of two CD sets of the History of Freedom lecture series. If you can donate 20.00 to the cost of purchase, that would be great! (The total cost for two sets is 140.00.)

Thank you also to Juleen for teaching us about contacting our representatives. (You can Google "American Family Association" to sign up to get their emails notifications. Sounds like a very helpful organization.) If anyone makes contact with the reps and wants to share their experience to encourage the rest of us, please do! I know I'd love to hear about it.

Next month's meeting will be December 3rd, 10am at Robin Young's home.

Thank you, thank you again, Gals! Your patriotism is an inspiration!

Today's meeting was very enriching. I am so grateful for the inspiration of the Daughters of Liberty. You gals help me to feel so hopeful in the future! It is at times intimidating to think of having to articulate what we understand of the principles upon which this nation was founded. I can get so tongue tied! I know that as we meet we will become more well-versed in this government "lingo" and feel more confident in sharing what we know in our heart is true. These principles are timeless--I know that our Founding Fathers were inspired.

On August 6th, 1862, my great, great grandfather--a Civil War soldier serving the Union--related the following to his wife in a letter:
"I think we have just commenced a terrible war. How it will end God only knows and trusting Him I think we shall finally triumph over our enemies and that our nation will stand for the brightest most powerful nation in the world."

That statement made by a humble soldier almost 150 years ago was, I believe, in a sense prophetic. This nation is a light to other nations (didn't Reagan say that?). We need to remember that we need not apologize for what we stand for. We need to take on the role of "teacher" in our families and among our friends--teaching the truth of how this nation was founded and who the inspired men were that founded it. Remember the song "Book of Mormon Stories". . .the last verse ends: ". . .given this land, if WE live righteously." This is truly a choice land and we will continue to live strong in the Lord so that this nation will be "indivisible, with liberty and justice for all".

Welcome Daughters of Liberty!

Our first meeting on September 3rd, 2009 was an inspiring success! Our discussion of chapter one of Liberty and Tyranny and Ezra Taft Benson's The Proper Role of Government left me feeling exhilerated and very hopeful. Each of you "Daughters" is so full of wisdom, courage and conviction. You stand for the principles on which this nation was founded. . .I know that through these meetings I will be strengthened in mind and spirit.

This is indeed an exciting time to be alive.

Our next meeting will be on October 1st at my home. . .10am.
We'll be discussing the second chapter of Liberty and Tyranny and the foreword and first chapter of The Five Thousand Year Leap. (Oh, Juleen! I wish you could be with us in October! And Lisa. . .please start a "chapter" of Daughters of Liberty in your new neighborhood. You have so much wisdom and insight to share.)

If you have any inspiration or thoughts regarding what's going on in our country currently, please post it on the blog. Thank you!
